A CRAY(R) J90 supercomputer system ordered in the third quarter is slated for installation in 1995 at Akzo Nobel's Central Research Facilities in Arhem, The Netherlands. Terms were not disclosed. Akzo Nobel's computational chemists, among others, will use the system with Cray Research's UniChem client/server computational chemistry software package for molecular modeling applications related to new Akzo Nobel products. A CRAY EL system installed last year will be used as a file server providing storage facilities for Akzo Nobel's range of workstations. In addition, Cray's Network Queuing Environment (NQE) software will network the two supercomputers to existing workstations. NQE automatically distributes compute jobs to the most appropriate resource on the heterogeneous networks. "NQE creates an environment in which batch jobs are easily managed across heterogeneous UNIX networks," said Mr Herman Dijkman, Information Manager at Akzo Nobel Central Research. Akzo Nobel is a leading chemical concern in the Netherlands and a global leader in selected areas of chemicals, coatings, healthcare products, and fibers. Akzo Nobel has more than 70,000 employees in more than 50 countries. Cray Research provides the leading high-performance computing tools and services to help solve customers' most challenging problems. ###
