(NYSE:CYR) announced today that it has received an order for a second Cray supercomputer from Bayer AG. Cray said the third-quarter order is for a CRAY J932 supercomputer scheduled to be installed by the end of the year and networked to an existing CRAY C92 supercomputer at Bayer's Corporate Research Center in Leverkusen. Terms were not disclosed. The 32-processor CRAY J932 system will be used by chemical engineers and chemists for dynamic process simulations and molecular modeling relating to new Bayer products. Cray said that Bayer AG was the first chemical company to acquire a Cray supercomputer for dynamic process simulation to improve the output of existing and newly designed manufacturing facilities. Dr. Wolfram Wagner, head of the Corporate Research Center at Bayer AG said, "with the help of our first Cray supercomputer we had impressive success in optimizing our production. We plan to intensify our efforts in this area with the new system. Our ongoing goal is to analyze more production facilities even faster and to do this with optimal safety and quality.
