Carlson, chairman and chief executive officer of Cray Research, Inc. (NYSE:CYR) a member of the newly formed President's Export Council (PEC), it was announced by the White House. The PEC is a committee of 24 business and labor leaders who "advise the President on matters related to export performance and encourage export expansion," according to a White House news release. The release said the PEC "also provides a forum for resolving trade-related problems among business, industrial, agricultural, labor and government sectors." Carlson, who was traveling on business to Tokyo, said in a statement, "I am honored to have been selected to work with this group. International markets account for a large portion of the computer industry's total revenues, so export policies are of great importance to us."
