Terms were not disclosed. Last week the University of Los Andes dedicated the new national supercomputing center for Colombia, naming it the MOX Center for Advanced Computing in Engineering. The center's computer, software and human resources will be made available to Colombia's academic, consultant and corporate sectors, according to a University of Los Andes School of Engineering news release issued earlier this week. University officials said the new center will help solve Colombia's computational problems in the areas of advanced product design and manufacturing; complex phenomena such as earthquakes and weather prediction; and financial calculations under uncertain scenarios. Data warehousing will also be a target application at the new MOX center. According to university officials, up to 25 percent of the center's computational power will be shared with other Colombian academic institutions.
