Cray/Media: Mardi Larson, 612/683-3538 Cray/Financial: Brad Allen, 612/683-7395 GERMAN NATIONAL WEATHER CENTER ORDERS SECOND CRAY SUPERCOMPUTER EAGAN, Minn., Jan. 4, 1995 -- Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD), Germany's national weather center in Offenbach, has ordered a two-processor CRAY Y-MP supercomputer, Cray Research (NYSE:CYR) announced today. Installed in fourth quarter of 1994, the Cray supercomputer will be networked to an existing four-processor CRAY Y-MP system. Financial terms were not disclosed. The two Cray Research supercomputers will be used to run weather forecasting models. DWD currently runs three models on the four-processor Cray system, including a seven-day global weather forecast, a 78-hour forecast for Europe and North America and a 36-hour forecast for Germany. The additional Cray Research supercomputer will enable the weather center to run these forecast models in more detail, increasing the accuracy of weather and climate predictions.
