Eaton, executive vice president of 3M Information, Imaging and Electronic Sector and Corporate Services, will stand for election on May 17 to the Cray Research, Inc. board of directors, it was announced today by John F. Carlson, Cray Research chairman and chief executive. Eaton, 56, will stand for election for a Cray Research board seat currently held by Livio D. DeSimone, 3M chairman and chief executive, who is retiring from the Cray board in May. In announcing Eaton's nomination, Carlson noted that "I am very pleased to have Larry join the Cray Board. We will miss the advice and counsel of Desi DeSimone, but are indeed fortunate to be able to draw on the domestic and international technology and marketing experience accumulated by Larry over the past 34 years." A native of Broadalbin, New York, Eaton holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Alfred University and a Masters of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Eaton has spent his professional career at 3M, starting in 1960 in the company's Research and Development laboratory. He also served as a process engineer, plant superintendent, plant manager in the U.S. and Italy and general manager of the Safety and Security Systems Division. In 1982 he was named division vice president, Traffic Controls Materials Division, and in 1984 was named executive vice president and board member of Sumitomo 3M Ltd. In 1986 he was named group vice president, Memory Technologies Group and was named to his current post in 1991. In 1993 he joined the 3M board of directors.
