(NYSE:CYR) announced today that it received orders for multiple Cray(R) supercomputers from Ford Motor Company. The orders came in third and fourth quarter 1995 and included two CRAY T90 series systems and a CRAY C916 supercomputer. In fourth quarter a CRAY T94 system was installed at Ford's Engineering Computer Center facility in Dearborn, Mich., and a CRAY C916 system at Ford's facility in Cologne, Germany, where it is has become the most powerful computer installed in the European auto industry. The third system, a top-of- the-line CRAY T932 supercomputer, will install later this year also in Dearborn. Terms were not disclosed, but Cray said CRAY T90 systems range in price from $2 million to more than $35 million and the CRAY C916 is priced from $7 million (all prices U.S. list). The CRAY T932 supercomputer has a maximum configuration of 32 processors and a peak speed of nearly 60 billion calculations per second. The supercomputers will be used to support Ford's simulation efforts for design, engineering, and new product development, as well as manufacturing for improved quality, safety, fuel efficiency and time-to-market for new vehicles. Cray has received multiple orders for the CRAY T932 system, many from industrial customers.
