CrayDoc online documentation reader Questions & Answers August, 1994 Q: What is CrayDoc? A: The CrayDoc online documentation reader is Cray Research's implementation of DynaText, a product of Electronic Book Technologies, Inc. (EBT). The reader is the newest addition to CRI's growing list of information sources and is designed to meet customer requests for a workstation- based electronic viewing tool that includes graphics, hypertext links, and book-level search indexes for quick information retrieval. Q: What releases does CrayDoc support? Currently, CrayDoc supports the following releases: * Distributed Programming Environment 1.0 * Network Queuing Environment 1.0 and 1.1 * CF77 Programming Environment 6.1 for parallel vector (PVP) and massively parallel (MPP) systems * CF90 Programming Environment 1.1 for PVP systems * Cray Standard C Programming Environment 1.1 for PVP and MPP systems * UNICOS MAX 1.1 * UNICOS 8.0 Q: How is CrayDoc delivered? A: CrayDoc is delivered on a CD-ROM disk that contains the reader and the documentation associated with a single release. There is no separate licensing required for CrayDoc use. For UNICOS 8.0 manuals, the Distribution Center will automatically send out CDs to those customers who ordered UNICOS 8.0. Beginning with UNICOS 8.0.3, the Distribution Center will include CrayDoc with all new UNICOS orders. Q: Now that they are online, can Cray Research manuals be passed around freely on the Internet or are they subject to copyright restrictions? A: Cray Research manuals are subject to copyright protection. Generally, manuals (both online and hardcopy) are for the private use of the customer and are not to be made available freely on the Internet. They can, however, be made available over a network to users of _your_ CRI system. For example, the Pittsburgh Supercomputer Center (PSC) is translating the UNICOS man pages to HTML and making them available to its users through the World Wide Web (WWW). PSC is using a special version of HTTPD to guarentee that only valid users can access the information. In this way, PSC can use the WWW to supply information to their users and maintain copyright protection and contractural obligations. Q: What hardware and software platforms are supported?
